Membership is open to both experienced shooters and newcomers alike. Shooters who are already members of an approved club can apply for full membership by proving their current membership or by providing the name and address of the Secretary of the club concerned.
For legal and security reasons newcomers to the sport must apply for probationary membership before they can be allowed to shoot regularly. During the probationary period, which lasts for six months, they will receive training in the safe handling of firearms and ammunition and will be introduced to the sport of target shooting. At the end of this period their supervisors will assess their progress in both aspects and, if considered satisfactory, they can then apply for full membership. If the Committee considers that additional initial training is required they would be offered a further six-month probationary membership.
Applicants will be asked to provide the name and address of a referee, who has known them for at least two years, from whom the Club can request a reference. There is no requirement for any newcomers to have their own equipment. The Club can provide all the equipment necessary for anyone to learn and enjoy the sport.
Shooters who are members of an existing club, and can confirm such membership to the duty Range Conducting Officer, can attend the range as a visitor on payment of the current visitor's fee.
